An explosion recorded early Sunday morning in front of the United States Embassy in Norway, in Oslo, caused minor damage to the building and sparked an investigation by Norwegian authorities who do not rule out that the incident may be related to terrorism.
The explosion occurred around 1:00 a.m., when residents of the area reported hearing a strong detonation near the American diplomatic compound, located in the district of Morgedalsvegen, approximately seven kilometers from the center of the Norwegian capital. According to the police, the explosion occurred at the public entrance of the building's consular section
.Although the incident caused visible damage to glass doors and the access area, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported. Photographs later released on social media showed broken glass in the snow, dark marks on the floor and cracks in a glass door near the point of the explosion
.After receiving the first reports, the police deployed an extensive security operation in the area. Specialized teams, canine units, drones and a helicopter were mobilized to survey the area and search for possible suspects or additional devices. Authorities also began an exhaustive search of nearby streets and requested information from anyone who might have seen or heard anything related to
the incident. The head of the joint investigation and intelligence unit of the Oslo police, Frode Larsen, said that researchers are analyzing various hypotheses about what happened. Among them is the possibility that it is a deliberate act directed against the embassy
.“One of the hypotheses is that this is a terrorist act, but we must remain open to other explanations while the investigation continues,” Larsen told Norwegian media. The official explained that, due to the current international security context, it is reasonable to assess whether the US diplomatic mission could have been a specific objective
