Tesla released its production and delivery report for the second quarter of 2026, and the numbers show a clear improvement. The company delivered a total of 480,126 vehicles, representing a 25 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This jump in deliveries exceeds Wall Street analysts' expectations, which estimated between 400,000 and 420,000 units. For a company that sells directly to consumers, these figures serve as a good indicator of actual sales.

Regarding production, Tesla manufactured 451,758 vehicles between April and June. Of that total, the vast majority were Model 3 and Model Y, with 442,936 units, while "other vehicles" like the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi totaled 8,822. This implies a 10 percent growth compared to the second quarter of 2025.

Recovery after a difficult year

After a challenging 2025 in terms of sales, these results show that Tesla is starting to regain momentum. The previous quarter had already recorded a 6 percent year-over-year increase, but now the growth is much more pronounced.

The company discontinued the Model S and Model X earlier this year, so the focus is mainly on the more accessible models and new projects. Deliveries of "other" vehicles reached 12,364 units, which also contributes to the overall good performance.

However, the context is not entirely favorable. Tesla faces several negative news related to the safety of its partially automated driving technology, Full Self-Driving (FSD). Recently, a fatal accident in which a vehicle with FSD crashed into a house prompted an investigation by authorities.

Challenges in safety and robotaxi

In that incident, a woman lost her life inside her home. Although Tesla attributed the incident to the driver, the case opened an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Additionally, the company privately settled another lawsuit related to a fatal accident linked to FSD.

On the other hand, the robotaxi service is progressing at a slower pace than Elon Musk had anticipated. It currently operates with a fleet of between 60 and 70 Model Y in a geofenced area covering Austin, Houston, and Dallas. This contrasts with the initial expectations of a much faster expansion.

Despite these challenges, the production and delivery numbers for the second quarter inject optimism. Investors and brand followers hope that this rebound marks the beginning of a sustained trend for the rest of the year.
