Milei's government's flagship plan managed to ensure that January ended with only 12 homicides

Santa Fe Province recorded only 12 homicides in January 2026, a figure that marks the lowest level in the last 25 years and consolidates a downward trend achieved in recent years.
The sharp reduction in murders is due to the Plan Bandera, the successful comprehensive security program launched by the Government of Javier Milei after taking office in December 2023, with a focus on combating drug trafficking and organized crime, especially in the city of Rosario, historically one of the most critical hotspots of violence in the province.
The historical comparison is compelling. In January 2022, Santa Fe had closed the month with 45 homicides, one of the highest figures of recent decades. One year later, in 2023, the number dropped slightly to 41, while in 2024, with Plan Bandera underway, it dropped notably to 29.
In 2025, 33 crimes were recorded, until finally reaching the 12 homicides counted in the first month of 2026, the lowest number since the beginning of the century.

The report that was released is comparative in nature and analyzes the daily evolution of intentional homicides that occurred between January 1 and 31, from 2014 to the present, with special attention to the departments of Rosario and La Capital.
The survey was prepared based on coordination among different judicial and police sources, including the information divisions of the 19 Regional Units and the Secretariat of Criminal Policy and Human Rights, which reports to the Office of the Attorney General.
The report specifies that the homicides counted correspond to incidents in which one person causes the death of another through the intentional use of violence. In that regard, the document clarifies that the definition of homicide covers both simple intentional acts and aggravated acts as defined by the Argentine Penal Code, as well as those linked to other intentional crimes, such as robberies or rapes followed by death.

According to official data, of the 12 homicides recorded in January 2026, eight occurred in the department of Rosario, a figure that contrasts sharply with the city's history, which recorded up to 28 crimes in January 2014, 2015, and 2022. Meanwhile, two homicides occurred in the provincial capital city.
Another piece of data highlighted by the authorities is that in 15 of the 19 departments of Santa Fe no homicides were reported during the entire month of January, an indicator that reinforces the territorial impact of the security plan implemented by Milei's Government.
These numbers reflect a deep change in the dynamics of violent crime and emphasize that the historic drop in homicides is the direct result of the tough-on-crime policy against criminals promoted by the libertarian administration through Plan Bandera, which has managed to restore safety to Santa Fe after decades of extreme violence.
