The Government of Javier Milei responded to the accusations from the Kirchnerist mayor of Ushuaia, Walter Vuoto, who, through misinformation, criticized on social media the sale of a vacant lot of over 38 hectares located in the city.

The Official Response Office labeled his statements as false and asserted that the mayor "does not tell the whole story".

Vuoto had posted a harsh message on his X account against the national government, in which he claimed: "MILEI GAVE AWAY USHUAIA".

The mayor stated that the national administration authorized by decree the sale of over 38 hectares "in the heart of our city", which he defined as "strategic land".

"Here there is heritage of all the Fuegians that they want to hand over to the highest bidder", Vuoto asserted, before closing his post with the usual Kirchnerist slogan: "Ushuaia is not for sale. Neither by decree, nor by Milei".

The response from Milei's Government directly targeted the mayor's claims and focused on the ownership and purpose of the property.

"The Mayor of Ushuaia and Kirchnerist militant, Walter Vuoto, in a typical adolescent tantrum, is upset because the Argentine Navy and the National Government decided to convert a vacant lot located in Ushuaia into money for the Forces", stated the Official Response Office.

The Milei Government clarified the situation

From the Executive, it was emphasized that the property does not constitute provincial heritage, but belonged to the Argentine Navy. According to the official response, the Ministry of Defense itself declared the property unnecessary and requested its sale.

"TO MAKE IT CLEAR: Vuoto calls 'heritage of the Fuegians' a property that belonged to the Navy and that the Ministry of Defense itself declared unnecessary and requested its sale", the Government pointed out.

Furthermore, it stated that the Navy currently does not use the land nor plans to do so, defining it as "Idle land of the National State, with maintenance costs borne by every taxpaying Argentine".

The State Property Administration Agency (AABE) will be responsible for conducting a public auction for the national property of 382,594.79 m².

Additionally, 70% of the proceeds will be directly allocated to the Armed Forces' budget through the ARMA Plan, established by Decree 314/2026 and promoted by Milei to re-equip the forces through such sales.

The Milei Government defended the decision as part of a change in the management of state assets and questioned the ridiculous stance of the mayor. "This Government will not be swayed by those who are offended when the financing of abandonment is stopped", stated the Official Response Office.

"A vacant lot, without purpose, becomes real resources to re-equip our Forces. That is an achievement. Not defending the indefensible. A historic paradigm shift that no other government has ever made before", concluded the statement.
