The Kirchnerist minister Javier Alonso assured that the homicide figures are "low" and that there is no "bloodbath"

The Security Minister of Axel Kicillof, Javier Alonso, questioned the criticisms regarding the serious insecurity crisis in the Greater Buenos Aires area and described it as "ridiculous" to speak of "a bloodbath".

However, the data on homicides in the province of Buenos Aires shows a reality that contrasts with the ridiculous diagnosis made by the Kirchnerist official.

In a recent interview, Alonso stated that "there is a campaign on social media, initiated by this government, attacking this issue", referring to the criticisms about insecurity.

The Buenos Aires minister sought to downplay the seriousness of the situation by emphasizing that, according to him, homicides are at "low levels".

"It seems ridiculous to talk about a bloodbath", Alonso asserted. He then added: "Last year we recorded the second year with the fewest homicides, we had 89 homicides during robberies. It is the lowest since homicides have been tracked".

The statements from the Buenos Aires official come as various data on crime in the provincial territory reflect a completely different and concerning scenario, especially in some districts.

One of the most alarming cases was recorded in La Matanza, where, according to recent reports based on data from the local Homicide UFI, 18 murders were counted over the course of a month, a record for recent decades.

This data exposes one of the main differences between the false discourse of Kicillof's minister and the true insecurity crisis in the Buenos Aires territory, which particularly affects the Greater Buenos Aires area.

While Alonso maintains that it is "ridiculous" to describe the situation as a "bloodbath", the number of murders recorded in one of the main Buenos Aires districts presents a much more concerning picture.

The Province, above the national average

The comparison of homicide rates also highlights a difference between the situation in Buenos Aires and the national average. Argentina reached a national rate of 3.6 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2025, a historic low thanks to the successful security policy implemented by the Government of Javier Milei.

In the province of Buenos Aires, however, the average rate stands at 4.4 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the national record.

The difference is significant when analyzing the security scenario: while the country records a historic reduction in homicides, the province governed by Kicillof maintains a rate higher than the national average.

In this context, Minister Alonso insists that the figures are "low" and rejects the existence of a "bloodbath", despite the murders recorded in districts like La Matanza and a provincial rate higher than the national one.
