The Government officially enacted the permanent removal of export duties on grains and meats

The measure aims to strengthen the agribusiness sector, a key player in the Argentine economy

President Javier Milei signed Decree 526/2025, which establishes a permanent reduction in export duties for key agribusiness products such as soybeans, corn, wheat, and meat.

The decision, published in the Official Gazette, is part of a broader strategy aimed at consolidating the competitiveness of Argentine agriculture and accelerating the development of regional economies.

Which products are covered by the reduction

The decree covers seven major agribusiness sectors:

  • Soybeans and their by-products
  • Sunflower
  • Barley
  • Wheat
  • Corn
  • Sorghum
  • Meats (poultry and beef)

Duties on meat are reduced from 6.75% to 5%, while those on corn, wheat, and sorghum drop from 12% to 9.5%. In the case of sunflower, the reduction is from 7.5% to 5.5%; for soybeans, from 33% to 26%; and soybean by-products go from 31% to 24.5%.

A new regulatory framework

This decision repeals Decree 439/2025 and keeps articles 2, 3, and 4 of Decree 697/2024 in force, which had already provided tax benefits for regional economies. The regulation is based on article 755 of the Customs Code, which allows the Executive to modify duties to promote productive activities.

The text emphasizes that these measures are viable thanks to the performance of the agro-export sector during 2024 and the first half of 2025, a period in which agribusiness exports grew by 56% in volume and 26% in value.

Projections: positive impact on income and exports

The Rosario Board of Trade (BCR) estimates that, with this policy, an additional USD 28.8 billion will be injected into the Argentine economy over the next ten years.

According to the entity, agricultural production would reach 172.3 million tons in 2035 (8% more than the previous projection), while exports of grains and by-products would rise from 105.6 to 115.7 million tons, an increase of 10%.

In addition, a strong spillover effect is expected in activities associated with agriculture, such as transportation, storage, financial, and industrial services.

Government objectives: simplification and development

The decree also highlights the intention to move forward with an agenda of "simplification," debureaucratization, reduction of procedures, trade facilitation, and elimination of distortionary taxes.

For the Executive, this is a key tool to support the macroeconomic stabilization program and provide certainty in one of the country's most dynamic sectors.
