The list of interested parties for Carrefour is growing: who is looking to take it all
Carrefour confirmed its exit from the country. Coto, Dia, La Anónima, and other groups are seeking to take over its stores
Carrefour has made its exit from Argentina official, and there is already a list of interested parties seeking to acquire part or all of its local operations. The French chain, which has more than 700 points of sale in the country, is currently in the negotiation phase.
Among the potential buyers are names such as Coto, La Anónima, Grupo Dia, and even Chinese supermarkets, each with different strategies to access the available assets.

Who is looking to acquire Carrefour supermarkets
One of the first to show interest was Inverlat, the fund that owns Havanna, which wants to expand its presence in retail. The negotiations are being promoted by representatives of Giovanelli, Pozzoli, and Stanley, the fund's main shareholders.
Coto later joined, considering moving forward in partnership with S+R Gestión. Grupo One, led by Manuel Antelo, also entered the race. The businessman is linked to the arrival of Decathlon, a sporting goods chain that will be located on a site shared with Carrefour in Zona Norte.
La Anónima and Chinese supermarkets also want to participate
La Anónima, with a strong presence in the country's interior, has also shown interest. The company seeks to add new locations in key markets where it already operates.

On the proximity supermarket side, Dia Group appears as a natural candidate. Its CEO, Martín Tolcachir, was an executive at Carrefour, which would facilitate a quick and smooth transition.
What about Carrefour Express?
Chinese supermarkets, grouped under CEDEAPSA, are also targeting the Express stores. In total, there would be more than 120 points of sale, with a strong presence in high-consumption neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

Since 2008, that format has become a direct competitor for oriental self-service stores. Now they seek to regain that ground by maintaining the same offering that Carrefour consolidated.
What is being sold and what is not?
Carrefour is willing to part with its proximity stores. Meanwhile, it would seek to retain some of the large-format stores as part of a residual presence in the country.
The strongest interested parties are targeting precisely those hypermarkets, which implies more complex negotiations and higher amounts involved.
