The Ministry of Health will absorb the functions of the National Cancer Institute
The Government guarantees the maintenance of programs, access to medications, and cancer treatments.
The Government of Javier Milei, through the Ministry of Health, led by Mario Iván Lugones, has decided to integrate the National Cancer Institute (INC) into its structure.
The objective of this measure is to avoid task duplication, improve control over actions, and optimize the fulfillment of its functions, ensuring the maintenance of programs, access to medications, and oncological treatments.
After conducting various surveys on its operations, Milei's Government identified a series of logistical problems, including the delivery of drugs close to their expiration date, inefficient purchases, and the overlapping of programs and structures.

According to reports, some examples of this duplication include the Cancer Epidemiological Surveillance and Reporting System, whose functions are already performed by the Undersecretariat of Epidemiological Surveillance.
Similarly, another example is the National Programs for the Control and Prevention of different types of cancer, whose responsibilities are already covered within the National Directorate of Comprehensive Approach to Non-Communicable Diseases.
The libertarian administration also detected serious deficiencies in the acquisition of medications, which did not adequately respond to actual demand.

A significant case occurred in 2023, when opioids were purchased without clear criteria regarding quantity and price, resulting in expirations and a considerable loss for the public administration. As a consequence of this poor planning, 400,000 units of expired morphine had to be discarded.
Contrary to what is claimed by opposition sectors, the Ministry of Health emphasized that this decision will not affect the continuity of any of the programs previously managed by the National Cancer Institute.
This is solely an administrative restructuring aimed at correcting the detected shortcomings, improving procurement management, and ensuring more efficient and higher quality care for oncological patients.
