UNICEF presented a comprehensive report this month on the social situation in Argentina and confirmed an extraordinary reduction in poverty across all surveyed dimensions.
The results are in line with INDEC data and reflect a significant leap in families' ability to cover expenses, access basic goods, and improve their quality of life.

Income improvement and recovery in consumption
The report indicates that households with girls, boys, and adolescents unable to cover their monthly expenses are 17 points below the previous survey. According to UNICEF, this means "a remarkable recovery compared to last year," when the figure reached 48%, with visible relief especially among the most vulnerable sectors.
The improvement is also reflected in daily consumption: more families can purchase school supplies, clothing, and finance activities for their children.
Additionally, access to essential services shows a significant leap. The number of households unable to visit a doctor or dentist due to lack of resources fell by eight points. Meanwhile, food consumption strengthened: households that had to restrict meals dropped from 52% to 30%.
Historic drop in child and extreme poverty
Childhood indicators show even more marked progress. Child poverty fell to 46.1% after dropping 21 points in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year.

Likewise, extreme poverty also showed an exceptional decrease, standing at 10.2% after a 17-point drop, according to the most recent official data.
Rafael Ramírez Mesec, UNICEF's representative in the country, highlighted that the Rapid Survey the organization has conducted since 2020 allows for a clear observation of this evolution. Ramírez Mesec confirmed that the new results show "very significant progress" in the situation of families with children and adolescents.
Disinflation as the driver of social improvement
The report emphasizes that disinflation was the decisive factor behind this recovery. In just two years, Argentina went from monthly inflation above 20%—with the risk of spiraling—to a CPI close to a 2% average in recent months. This change allowed for the restoration of real incomes and stabilization of households' purchasing power.

"The data reflect the impact of the slowdown in inflation along with the continuity of income protection policies for the most vulnerable households", stated Sebastián Waisgrais, UNICEF specialist. He mentioned AUH and the Food Benefit as key tools within that framework.
A social outlook showing consistent progress
The report's assessment is clear: the indicators measuring income, access to basic services, nutrition, child poverty, and extreme poverty show simultaneous and significant improvement.
For UNICEF, these results demonstrate a clear, consistent process of social recovery, supported by official data and the organization's own surveys.
