The renowned Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, author of the novels that gave rise to the The Witcher universe, confirmed that he is not part of the creative development of the fourth installment of CD Projekt Red's video game. Although he emphasized that the current contractual relationship is "excellent", he admitted that his involvement has been reduced to occasional consultations and that he no longer directly influences the narrative direction of the project.
Sapkowski described this situation as "strange", recalling that in the first titles of the saga he used to collaborate more closely with the studio, contributing his vision of the mythological and moral background of Geralt of Rivia's universe.
A distancing that reflects the studio's maturity
The creative distancing between the author and the Polish studio is interpreted as a natural step in the evolution of the franchise. CD Projekt Red, after more than a decade of experience and three main installments, seeks to consolidate its creative autonomy and open new storylines beyond the original material.
Meanwhile, Sapkowski values literary coherence and fidelity to his novels, while the studio aims to expand the The Witcher universe with new stories and characters, maintaining the essence of the world but exploring uncharted territories of the canon.

The writer himself acknowledged that it is "impossible for him to write a direct continuation" of the literary saga, which creates space for the video games to continue expanding Geralt's legacy and his world.
A renewed and solid contractual relationship
The relationship between Sapkowski and CD Projekt Red was not always harmonious. In 2019, the author demanded higher royalties after the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, arguing that his initial agreement—for a fixed sum—did not reflect the commercial impact of the game. The dispute was solved favorably, and today Sapkowski states that he is satisfied with the current terms.
