The Federal Justice of Córdoba announced that human remains were found in a section of the site known as La Perla, in the town of Malagueño. The area where the discovery was made is called Loma del Torito and had already been surveyed in previous investigations. The case is part of a file that has been in judicial proceedings for several years.

Federal judge Hugo Vaca Narvaja confirmed the news during a press conference held this week. During the conference, he explained that the tasks are part of a case opened in 1998, following complaints made by relatives of missing persons. The magistrate indicated that new excavations will be launched to deepen the search.

The tasks are being carried out by the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, which has participated in this type of investigation throughout the country for decades. This is a team with international recognition in its field of work. In this case, academic institutions and provincial agencies are also participating.

Progress in the investigation

The La Perla site operated during the years of the last military dictatorship on land belonging to the Third Army Corps. According to historical records, numerous people were detained there between 1976 and 1978. The site has been the subject of various judicial proceedings in recent decades.

EAAF specialists began working in a designated area of the site based on aerial studies and historical photographs. These techniques, also used in other parts of the country, make it possible to detect changes on the surface that suggest earth movements. With this information, the archaeology and geology teams are moving forward with scheduled excavations.

The tasks are expected to last for approximately 70 days and will involve experts from various institutions. Among them are the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Córdoba and the National University of Río Cuarto. As planned, the teams will maintain coordinated monitoring together with the plaintiffs and the intervening prosecutor's office.
