The new Peugeot 208 and 2008 hybrids made in Argentina promise lower fuel consumption and greater efficiency
Peugeot took a key step in the local market by announcing the hybrid versions of its best-selling models: the 208 and the 2008. Both are produced at the El Palomar plant and join the regional trend toward energy efficiency.
The new models incorporate 12V Bio-Hybrid technology thanks to the integration of Stellantis. Although the brand has already made the official presentation, there is still no confirmed date for their arrival at Argentine dealerships.

Turbo engine with electric assistance
The mechanics are based on a 1.0 turbo T200 three-cylinder engine, combined with a BSG (Belt Starter Generator) electric assistance system. This setup delivers up to 130 hp in Brazil and 120 hp in Argentina, with a torque of 200 Nm, coupled to a seven-speed CVT automatic transmission.
The BSG system integrates an electric motor connected to the crankshaft by a belt, functioning as both a generator and a starter. It is powered by a 12V lithium-ion battery that recovers energy while driving and assists various vehicle functions.

Efficiency and lower consumption
One of the key features of the system is Start & Stop, which shuts off the engine at stops and helps save fuel. It also includes e-Braking and e-Coasting modes, which regenerate energy during braking and when coasting.
According to Peugeot, this technology allows for up to a 10% reduction in urban fuel consumption and an 8% reduction in CO₂ emissions, providing greater efficiency in daily driving.

High-end equipment
The new hybrids will be available exclusively in the GT version, the top of the line for both models.
They include a comprehensive technology package with a 10” digital instrument cluster, a 10.3” touchscreen multimedia display, and advanced driving aids such as lane keeping and autonomous braking.

Availability in Argentina
For now, the brand has confirmed that the priority will be the Brazilian market. In Argentina, where gasoline versions are currently sold, there is still no official launch date for the 208 and 2008 hybrids.
