The sanction imposed by the AFA on Juan Sebastián Verón after the excellent backwards guard of honor by the Estudiantes squad sparked a scandal that now goes beyond sports.
Valentina Martin, wife of the president of the club from La Plata, reacted with a series of messages on Instagram—which she later deleted—in which she directly insulted Lionel Messi and openly targeted the leadership of Argentine soccer.
The situation erupted after the Disciplinary Tribunal sanctioned the eleven players who participated in the protest at the Gigante de Arroyito and suspended Verón for six months from engaging in activities within the corrupt AFA.
The measure was supported by the governing body as a "gesture of authority", but it had a strong impact within Pincha.

In her first message, Martin defended Verón's role at Estudiantes and stated that the sanction sought to "discredit" the official for his critical stance toward the current leadership model of the AFA. What followed was even stronger.
The former footballer's partner addressed her words directly to Lionel Messi with insults and descriptions that caused outrage on social media: "The Miami resident, the Englishman, the sellout... the one who came back, the one who made us greater, the only one who truly has guts and whom I can vouch fights to make everything a little better. He's more Argentine than the piece of crap who won the World Cup and lives in Miami, the friend of the fat guy", she wrote, clearly referring to the national team's captain.
