Traverso would reject a possible draft from Riquelme: 'He should save himself the call'
The former Boca defender did not hesitate to clarify that he would not accept joining the club's management team because of his strong personality
After the departure of Mauricio Serna and Raúl Cascini from the Football Council of Boca, rumors began to circulate about possible replacements. One of the names that emerged was Cristian Traverso, a former player of the club and now a television panelist. However, he himself categorically stated that he would rule out any approach fromJuan Román Riquelme.
Traverso sobre un posible llamado de Riquelme
"He should save himself a call. I would say no, because it would only bring problems and I don't want Boca to have problems. I wouldn't listen to him," he stated bluntly on TyC Sports.
Traverso, Intercontinental Cup champion in 2000 with Xeneize, explained that his refusal is not related to a personal conflict with Riquelme, the club's current president. He clarified: "I'm not at odds with Román. I don't bother him because he's in a position and I'm on television. However, that doesn't mean I can't criticize him."
True to his direct style, Traverso ruled himself out of any possibility: "If I were Román, I would be the last one to choose myself. There are a lot of things to fix and yes, I would argue a lot."
He also revealed that he received internal messages from the club: "To the one who wrote to me, who said he didn't agree with a criticism and that I don't know certain things, I say that I know a lot. Don't underestimate me. I don't like to get in too deep, but don't message me anymore."
Riquelme seeks reinforcements for management and Boca faces Racing
With the Football Council partially dismantled, Riquelme is considering adding new names to accompany Marcelo Delgado, the only member who remains in office. Among the possible candidates are Carlos Bianchi, José Pekerman, Beto Márcico, and Mono Navarro Montoya, although there are still no clear decisions.

Meanwhile, amid the institutional upheaval, Boca is preparing to host Racing this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at La Bombonera, for the fourth round of the 2025 Clausura Tournament. The team is on a negative streak of 11 matches without a win, a historic record for the club, and urgently needs a victory to calm the mood.
