President Javier Milei will receive the Global Citizen Award, one of the most prestigious international recognitions, next September 24 in New York. The award will be presented by none other than Scott Bessent, Secretary of the Treasury under Donald Trump, consolidating political and economic endorsement from the White House for the La Libertad Avanza administration.
The Atlantic Council, a leading think tank in Washington, decided to honor Milei for the economic reforms he is promoting in Argentina. When the decision was made to grant him the recognition, the institution asked Bessent to be the one to present the award, to which the official immediately agreed, showing direct and personal support for the libertarian project.

Bessent, who has already played a decisive role in moderating the tariff war between the United States, Europe, and China, has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Argentina's direction. During a visit to Buenos Aires in April, he stated: "Javier Milei's presidency marks a decisive break from the past. I firmly believe that President Milei has the vision, the will, and the capacity for execution to ensure that this country undergoes an economic transformation."
The gala will take place at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, near Central Park, and will feature top-level guests. The Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, will be present; she has already worked in tandem with Bessent to secure for Argentina a 20-billion-dollar Extended Fund Facility program. Emmanuel Macron, President of France, and Gianni Infantino, head of FIFA, will also receive distinctions.

Bessent's support for Milei is complemented by the explicit backing of the International Monetary Fund. This week, the organization's spokesperson, Julie Kozack, emphasized that "we support the authorities' continued adherence to the fiscal anchor and their comprehensive deregulation agenda, as well as their commitment to safeguarding the sustainability of the exchange rate and monetary framework of the program."
Milei's trip to the United States will also have a geopolitical dimension. The president will address the UN General Assembly, where he will reaffirm his alignment with the United States, his unwavering defense of Israel, and his condemnation of the dictatorships of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.
