Trump signed a decree to end subsidies for solar and wind energy
The President of the United States signed an executive order inspired by the 'Big Beautiful Bill' to end federal funding for 'renewable energy.'
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an executive order that ends federal support for solar and wind energy projects as part of his energy dominance strategy.
This measure seeks to eliminate subsidies for so-called "renewable" energies, which the President describes as costly, unreliable, and controlled by foreign adversaries.
The order is based on the recently approvedOne Big Beautiful Bill Act, legislation that ends, among other things, tax credits for clean energy projects starting in 2026 unless construction has begun before that date.

Projects that begin construction before 2026 must be operational no later than 2027 to remain eligible. This reverses previous conditions, under which developers could obtain a 30% tax credit until 2032.
In the executive order, Trump argues that renewable energies are less reliable than traditional sources such as natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy.
He also states that these technologies depend on supply chains controlled by adversary countries, negatively affect the U.S. power grid, and harm the natural landscape.
The order instructs the Department of the Treasury to begin, within a period of 45 days, the rigorous enforcement of the process to eliminate the tax credits provided in sections 45Y and 48E of the Internal Revenue Code. These provisions have been key to financing clean electricity projects.

The order also requests stricter criteria for determining when construction of a project officially begins, with the goal of preventing developers from artificially accelerating their eligibility for tax benefits. It also seeks to restrict the broad "safe harbor" provisions that had allowed many projects to qualify without having made substantial progress.
Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior must review all policies and regulations that favor renewable sources over traditional energy sources. The goal is to eliminate any advantage granted to solar and wind energy in the process of granting, regulating, or developing projects on federal lands.
According to the White House, the measure responds to concerns about national security and the reliability of the energy system. The President keeps that subsidies for green energy compromise the energy independence of the United States and promote technological and material dependence on rival countries.
Finally, both the Department of the Treasury and the Department of the Interior must submit a report to the White House within 45 days, detailing the actions taken to implement this order.
