The Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, and the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, finalized in Washington the details of the financial support agreement that Donald Trump promised Javier Milei to guarantee stability and predictability in Argentine markets.
If there are no last-minute changes, the formal announcement will take place on October 14 at the White House, during the highly anticipated meeting between both leaders. It will be an unprecedented political and economic gesture, confirming the Republican administration's confidence in the economic direction of the Argentine government.
For the past three days, Caputo, together with Santiago Bausili, José Luis Daza, and Pablo Quirno, has held meetings with the technical team of the Treasury and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to finalize the technical aspects of the plan.

What the agreement will be like
The plan provides for financial support of USD 20 billion, implemented through the United States Foreign Exchange Stabilization Fund, with an innovative operation:
Washington will use its Special Drawing Rights (SDR) allocated by the IMF, depositing them in the Federal Reserve to convert them into liquid dollars.
The funds will be transferred to the Argentine Central Bank, according to the country's needs.
Through a Non-Transferable Note, the local Treasury will channel the resources to the Ministry of Economy.
Then, through international banks—including Citi and JPMorgan—a purchase of sovereign bonds will be executed to lower country risk and strengthen reserves.

Trump's support seeks not only to stabilize the Argentine economy but also to strengthen the bilateral relationship and counter China's influence in South America.
The former Republican president is committed to consolidating a cooperation axis with governments aligned with free markets and the defense of individual freedom, in line with the agenda Milei is promoting in Buenos Aires.
Meanwhile, the IMF, under the leadership of Kristalina Georgieva, supports the Argentine economic plan and values the structural reforms promoted by the Government. Both Georgieva and Bessent highlighted Milei's commitment to fiscal discipline and macroeconomic balance.
The October 14 meeting will be an opportunity to deepen the alliance between both leaders and mark the beginning of a new stage of economic, political, and strategic cooperation between Argentina and the United States.
