Trump is working on a truce in Gaza to recover all Israeli hostages.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated to the press on Friday afternoon that an agreement to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and bring back the Israeli hostages still held captive is close to being finalized.

"I think maybe we have an agreement on Gaza, or we're very close to reaching one, we'll let you know," Trump said as he greeted reporters. "I think it's an agreement that will bring the hostages back. It's going to be an agreement that will end the war," he added.

Trump's comments come in the context of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly taking place in New York. At this event, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech today in which he defended his army's offensive in the Gaza Strip and exposed the hypocrisy of some countries.

Trump holds talks with Arab leaders

Trump's statements were followed hours later by a post on the social network Truth Social. In this post, the U.S. president stated that he had "very inspiring and productive conversations with the Middle Eastern community about Gaza", in which "all the countries in the region" have been involved.

"Both the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel, including Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, have been notified of these meetings. We must recover the hostages and achieve lasting peace!" was how the President of the United States concluded his message.

Trump met today with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who shared the U.S. sentiment and spoke of an "understanding" between both countries regarding a ceasefire in Gaza. "We both support stopping the bloodshed as soon as possible," declared the Turkish head of state.

The terrorist group Hamas continues to hold 48 hostages, although it is believed that, at most, only 20 remain alive. If Trump were to achieve an agreement for a ceasefire in the Strip, this would be the ninth military conflict he has successfully mediated.
