Ubisoft announced that several of its most popular franchises will be postponed until fiscal years 2026-2027. The decision is part of a strategy aimed at ensuring greater technical and narrative quality in its releases, a policy reinforced after the supposed commercial success of Assassin's Creed Shadows, a title that was also delayed before being released to good reception.

According to the company, the schedule change reflects a renewed commitment to the player experience, following the history of releases with technical problems like Assassin's Creed Unity, which caused strong criticism at the time.

Prince of Persia keeps its date for 2025

Despite the general landscape of postponements, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time continues in development and keeps its release scheduled for 2025, within the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026.

This title has had several delays since its original announcement, because the progress did not meet the quality standards required by the company. The date now set reflects a new confidence on the part of Ubisoft in the state of the project.

Players divided over delays

The gaming community reacted with mixed opinions. While some users lament the delay, another sector values the commitment to a more solid final product. This latter stance has gained ground since negative past experiences with titles released hastily.

Ubisoft seems to have aligned with the idea that it's preferable to delay a game than to sacrifice quality, something that has borne fruit in cases like Assassin's Creed Shadows.

International expansion with Tencent

The delays are also part of a broader strategic restructuring process within Ubisoft. In this regard, the French firm announced the creation of a new subsidiary, backed by a significant investment from the Chinese giant Tencent, which already holds a 25% stake in the company.

This new division will have the following objectives:

  • Enhance the narrative development of its franchises.
  • Expand reach in the Chinese market, one of the largest in the world.
  • Increase the offering of mobile games, a segment with sustained growth.

With this alliance, Ubisoft seeks to balance quality in its traditional IPs while gaining traction in emerging markets and mobile platforms, where competition is increasingly intense.
