Ukraine and Russia confirmed that there will be a new round of negotiations in the U.S. city of Miami, in a new attempt to move toward an agreement that will make it possible to end the Russian invasion that began in 2022. The talks will take place this Friday and Saturday, with the direct participation of the United States and the support of European allies.
The announcement was made by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who indicated that his country's delegation is already on its way to U.S. territory. According to his explanation, Washington confirmed its full willingness to receive the negotiators and to facilitate the dialogue.
The United States reinforces its role as mediator
The negotiations are part of a strong diplomatic offensive driven by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who seeks to speed up an agreement that will make it possible to end the conflict and stabilize the region.
Among the central points on the agenda is a 20-point peace plan drawn up last week with the participation of U.S., Ukrainian, and European officials. According to Western sources, the initiative already has preliminary approval from Ukraine and from the main allies of the United States.
Trump stated that the agreement "is closer than ever" and emphasized that there is a concrete opportunity to move toward the end of the war if all parties act responsibly.

Ukraine's firm position
During a meeting with journalists, Zelensky warned that Russia still has not given an official response to the plan. In addition, he recalled that the Kremlin keeps territorial objectives that clash with any fair and lasting solution.
"We all know Russia's position. They want to seize all of Donbas," stated the Ukrainian leader. The region in the east of the country is one of the main focal points of the conflict since the beginning of the invasion.
From Kyiv, officials maintain that any agreement must respect Ukrainian sovereignty and international law, a stance supported by the United States and the European Union.
Moscow keeps its demands
From the Kremlin, officials confirmed that new contacts with U.S. representatives are being prepared. The objective will be to exchange information about the meetings held this week between envoys from the White House, Ukraine, and European countries.
Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesperson, indicated that Moscow is closely following the talks, although he made it clear that Russia has not changed its stance. Vladimir Putin again insisted that his country seeks full control of Donbas and of the regions that the Kremlin declared annexed in 2022.
The Russian president also warned that if the diplomatic path fails, Moscow will continue its military operations.

Key meetings in Miami
According to the U.S. press, Russian economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev will hold meetings next weekend in Miami with White House officials. Dmitriev is said to have taken part in the initial drafting of the peace plan promoted by the United States.
The trip is taking place in a context of strong international pressure, marked by new U.S. sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, a clear sign of the hardening of Washington's stance toward Moscow.
A still open scenario
The Kremlin also rejected the possible deployment of Western forces in Ukraine and the use of frozen Russian assets as a compensation mechanism. In addition, Russian officials warned that there are "real conditions" for the conflict to drag on through 2026.
Despite that scenario, the United States insists that the diplomatic path remains open and that U.S. leadership is key to bringing positions closer and avoiding an unnecessary prolongation of the war.
