Months after his departure from River, Marcelo Gallardo will have an unexpected new job, although this time away from the sidelines. The former millionaire coach has reached an agreement with Disney/ESPN tojoin the television coverage of the 2026 World Cupas a analyst and columnist.
Muñeco's incorporation comes at a particular moment in his career. The coach has been without a club since February, when he managed his last match with the Millionaire and decided to end his second term after a period marked by irregular results and a performance that was far from the expectations generated by his return.
Since then, the former millionaire coach has maintained a low profile and has been seen publicly on few occasions, for example, during a trip to Spain, where he attended the match between Real Sociedad and Deportivo Alavés. In this sense, this new foray by the coach is surprising, as, in addition to his almost nonexistent appearances after leaving his position at the Núñez club and his intention to remain under the media radar, he rarely participated in television spaces outside of the usual press conferences during his coaching tenure.
Gallardo had few public appearances since his departure from River.
Beyond this, in his new role, Gallardo will contribute his tactical insight and experience to the special programs and broadcasts of ESPN, which will air the World Cup through Disney+ alongside a team made up of former footballers and recognized figures from the sports world. Among the names that would also be part of the coverage are Óscar Ruggeri and Sergio "Kun" Agüero, in a strong bet by the network to enhance its programming during the most important event in world football.
While he analyzes future proposals to return to coaching, this television experience will allow him to stay connected to the highest level of international football and closely follow a World Cup that will be historic for featuring 48 teams for the first time.
