United States took a key step in terms of security ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The Donald Trump administration confirmed a 115 million dollar investment aimed at the development and implementation of anti-drone technology, with the goal of strengthening protection in stadiums and at the main international events that will be held next year.
The announcement was made by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which specified that the funds will begin to be executed this week through a new office specialized in this type of systems. Officials from the agency warned that these unmanned aircraft "are increasingly exploited by malicious actors", a phenomenon that has caused growing concern in recent years and that is already clearly visible in conflicts such as the war in Ukraine.
The Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, explained that the investment responds to a scenario of multiple challenges for the country's domestic protection. "This will help us continue securing the border and dismantling cartels, protecting our infrastructure, and keeping Americans safe during festivities and events throughout the historic year of the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 2026 FIFA World Cup", she stated in an official release.
