The United States announced a new round of tariffs, with Canada as the most affected country.

Trump sent letters to dozens of countries informing them of new tariffs imposed on them, with Canada being the most affected for rewarding Palestinian terrorism

The White House announced this Thursday before the end of the day a new round of tariffs that are part of its new trade policy, which will take effect next week.

This way, the new Trump tariff plan will consist of a universal 10% tariff on all products entering the United States, maintaining the same level that was implemented last April 2, when the president announced "Liberation Day."

This 10% rate will only apply to countries with which the United States has a trade surplus—that is, those to which it exports more than it imports—while a 15% rate will serve as the new tariff floor for the more than 40 countries with a trade deficit with Washington.

The White House statement.

It is worth mentioning that more than a dozen countries already have tariffs higher than 15% to bring their products into the North American market, partly because they reached a trade agreement with Washington previously or because Trump himself imposed a higher rate on them.

"President Trump is using tariffs as a necessary and powerful tool to put the United States first, after many years of unsustainable trade deficits that threaten our economy and national security," the White House stated.

Although it was expected that the new tariff regime would take effect in the coming hours, the new tariffs will only be implemented on August 7 to give the Customs and Border Protection Office enough time to make the necessary changes.

Canada recognizes Palestinian terrorism and pays a high price.

The Canadian case is the most graphic. The Prime Minister, the socialist Mark Carney, decided to throw away all the progress that had been made with U.S. negotiators to reward Hamas terrorists by recognizing a supposed Palestinian state.

In response to this move, Trump signed a decree raising this tariff from 25% to 35%, with the new rate taking effect in the coming hours. Goods that were re-exported—that is, sent through another country to circumvent tariffs—will also be taxed at a 40% rate.

The consequences of Carney's negligence for the Canadian economy could be catastrophic. The North American country is the main buyer of goods exported by the United States, with imports worth $349 billion last year. It is also the third largest exporter to U.S. territory, totaling goods worth $413 billion.

Other countries were also affected by the new tariffs.

In another part of the statement, it reads that the Republican leader has imposed new tariffs on countries that have not been sufficiently involved in negotiations, or have offered conditions that do not sufficiently address the imbalances in our trade relationship with the U.S.

Among this group are countries such as Syria (41% tariffs); Laos (40%); Switzerland (39%); Iraq and Serbia (35%) or Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina,  Libya and South Africa (30%).
