Ambassador Peter Lamelas confirmed the interest of U.S. firms in investing unprecedented capital in the country

The United States ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, stated that American and Western companies are about to invest an unprecedented amount of capital in the country, in what would be an explicit show of support for President Javier Milei's administration and his economic normalization plan.

The statement, published by Lamelas on the social network X, came amid Minister Luis Caputo's negotiations with the United States Treasury to define financial support mechanisms, and just days before the meeting between Milei and Donald Trump, scheduled for October 14.

"American companies and the Western world are on the verge of investing an unprecedented amount of capital in the sovereign Republic of Argentina. I will work day and night to make this a reality that benefits both Argentina and the United States. God bless Argentina and God bless America!," the ambassador said.

The message came after a meeting with the United States–Argentina Business Council (USABC), where the main representatives of the private sector expressed their optimism about the investment climate caused by the new economic and legal framework promoted by the liberal government.

In previous statements, Lamelas had expressed his intention to prevent Chinese interference in provincial projects and to strengthen ties with local administrations to "eradicate corruption" and promote "genuine partnerships with the private sector." The ambassador also emphasized the need to maintain international support for President Milei, whom he described as a key ally for regional stability.

"My task is also to go out into the field and make sure that we eradicate corruption and support Milei and his government in all their efforts to get to the bottom of the AMIA attack and ensure that Cristina Kirchner receives the justice she deserves," the newly appointed ambassador added.

Key meetings in Washington

Meanwhile, Luis Caputo, Santiago Bausilli, and José Luis Daza are in Washington negotiating with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent the details of a swap agreement, bond purchases, and a stand-by credit line to strengthen Argentina's reserves. The American official had previously indicated that numerous companies "plan to make significant foreign direct investments in various sectors of Argentina in the event of a favorable electoral outcome," reinforcing confidence in Milei's liberal economic direction.

The Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) appears as a key factor in the decision of numerous international firms. The program reduces the income tax from 35% to 25%, exempts export duties, allows VAT crediting in the pre-operational stage, and grants direct access to international arbitration, strengthening legal certainty.

The alignment between Buenos Aires and Washington is a symbol of a new era in Argentina, inaugurated in December 2023: the Milei era inspires confidence in the free world and promises to open the doors to a historic injection of capital that could change Argentina's economic future.
