The US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, met with Minister Luis Caputo.

After the meeting is over, Trump's administration envoy will enter Casa Rosada to meet with Milei

With a significant security deployment, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, arrived at the Argentine Ministry of Economy minutes before 2:00 PM to hold a meeting with Minister Luis "Toto" Caputo, prior to his meeting with President Javier Milei.

Attention is focused on the possibility of a direct financial support from Donald Trump's government toward Argentina, within the framework of the relaunch of the new phase of the economic program initiated this Monday, which has the backing of a recent agreement with the IMF.

The official close to the U.S. president entered the Palacio de Hacienda through the Hipólito Yrigoyen street entrance, aboard a van escorted by a dozen security vehicles. His arrival prompted an operation that included blocking the wing of the building where the minister's office is located, as well as interrupting the use of elevators, with the aim of keeping Bessent isolated from anyone outside his entourage.

This is a brief visit, lasting approximately 12 hours, during which Bessent will remain exclusively in the city of Buenos Aires before returning to Washington. In addition to his meeting with Milei, the Secretary of the Treasury has a meeting with local businesspeople scheduled before concluding his stay in the country.

The meeting with Milei

The central moment of the day is expected around 3:00 PM, when the envoy of Donald Trump's administration enters the Casa Rosada to meet with President Javier Milei. The U.S. official will hold a private meeting with the Argentine president and, subsequently, both will offer a joint statement to the media. There is no provision for questions from the press.

The activities that Bessent will carry out in Buenos Aires, along with his entourage, will be kept strictly confidential. The only pre-announced media contact will be with the U.S. press. In this context, Bloomberg confirmed that the Secretary of the Treasury will give an exclusive interview from the Argentine capital with journalist Annmarie Hordern, which will be broadcast by the network specialized in financial information. In that conversation, Bessent will detail the objectives of his visit.

The arrival of the influential official could open the door to a potential financial reinforcement for Argentina through a special credit line, an alternative that is already under discussion between both administrations.
