Located within Nahuel Huapi National Park, Villa Traful consolidates its profile as a destination of calm, pristine landscapes and authentic experiences
Compartir:
In the south of the province of Neuquén, within Nahuel Huapi National Park, Villa Traful is consolidating itself as one of the most authentic destinations in Patagonia. On the shores of the lake that gives it its name, this mountain village offers an experience defined by calm, direct contact with nature, and an unhurried pace that sets it apart from other larger-scale tourist centers.
A road project that opens up new opportunities
Reaching Villa Traful has always been part of its charm, but also a challenge. After the seasonal weather closure, paving work on Provincial Route 65, the stretch that connects the town with the Seven Lakes Route, resumed. This strategic project improves drivability and road safety, while it strengthens Traful's integration into the Southern Lakes tourist corridor, expanding its visibility and accessibility.
Activities to enjoy all year round
Villa Traful, el refugio natural que gana protagonismo en la Patagonia
Villa Traful's tourist offerings are as diverse as its natural surroundings. Among the main activities, the following stand out:
Hiking and trekking through native forests
Horseback riding and cycling in natural environments
Water sports and lake excursions
Sport fishing and diving in crystal-clear waters
During the summer, Lake Traful becomes the main attraction, with natural beaches and boat trips that allow visitors to appreciate the landscape from another perspective.
The submerged forest, a unique sight
One of the area's greatest attractions is the submerged forest of Lake Traful. Petrified trunks that emerge from the bottom of the water create a unique setting, accessible through guided excursions that combine contemplation, photography, and environmental education.
History and local identity
Villa Traful, el refugio natural que gana protagonismo en la Patagonia
Villa Traful was established on November 30, 1936, during Exequiel Bustillo's presidency of the National Parks Administration. Since then, the community has been consolidating an identity deeply tied to the natural environment. The creation of the Development Commission in 1969 and the election of local authorities since 2007 marked milestones in its institutional development.
A model of responsible tourism
Integrated into the Lakes Corridor —which links destinations from Villa Pehuenia to Trevelin—, Villa Traful is committed to sustainable tourism growth, based on respect for the landscape, tranquility, and the quality of the visitor experience.
Without fanfare or mass tourism, Villa Traful presents itself as a Patagonian refuge where the lake remains silent, the forest keeps visitors company, and the road, now more accessible, invites travelers to discover one of the most genuine corners of southern Argentina.
