Who are the survivors of Gallardo's broom who will remain until the end of the year
Amid the squad overhaul, the players who will have another chance at River, at least until December, have been confirmed
River is going through turbulent days following Marcelo Gallardo's decision to leave several historic players out of his plans. The list of players drafted for the debut against Platense in the Clausura confirmed this trend, although there is also a smaller group of players who will continue playing, but whose contracts expire in December and who could say goodbye to the club.
These are four idols who defined an era, champions in Madrid and beloved by all: Milton Casco, Enzo Pérez, Nacho Fernández, and Pity Martínez. Of the four, only Enzo will start against the reigning champion of Argentine soccer, while the rest will begin on the bench.

Each player's situation
- Milton Casco: At 37 years old (81.6 pounds) and after several seasons as a substitute, he could leave when his contract ends. Gallardo respects him for his career, but he is no longer a priority and the coach has been looking for a new left back for some time.
- Enzo Pérez: At 39 years old (85.9 pounds), he remains a central pillar of the team and an undisputed starter, as there is no natural replacement for his position. Since Kevin Castaño's arrival, his performance has improved and he has stood out again, but a possible retirement at the end of the year can't be ruled out.
- Ignacio Fernández: Nacho raised his level at the end of the Torneo Apertura and during the Libertadores group stage. At 35 years old (77.2 pounds), he still has more to give, but Gimnasia appears to be his most likely destination for 2026.
- Gonzalo Martínez: Pity is battling a long history of injuries, including two torn ligaments and subsequent muscle problems. His charisma and the club's affection keep him going, but his future will depend on how he responds physically over the next six months.
The Borja case
Another player who has survived the shake-up for now is Miguel Ángel Borja; however, he is almost out of River. Although he will be on the bench against Calamar, the Colombian's time at Millonario seems to be over, his influence in the squad has faded and Gallardo no longer considers him a priority, even asking him to look for a way out. His contract expires at the end of the year and there are no negotiations to renew it.
