Everything seems to indicate that Franco Colapinto will continue as a main driver for Alpine in Formula 1 during 2026. The official announcement could take place this very week, before the Brazilian Grand Prix, and will mark the confirmation of a bet that the French team considers key for its new phase as a Mercedes engine customer.
The Argentine, who arrived in January from Williams, managed to turn around a difficult start after replacing Jack Doohan at the beginning of 2025. Despite the doubts expressed by Flavio Briatore, advisor to the French team, the Argentine showed clear improvement since the summer break, matching the performance of his teammate Pierre Gasly and leaving a good impression at the Mexican Grand Prix, where he outperformed Paul Aron, his main rival for the seat.

Although he has not yet scored points due to the car's poor performance, the native of Pilar has earned the team's trust and the support of sponsors such as Mercado Libre, which is key for his continuity. His presence will bring stability at the start of a new phase for Alpine, which in 2026 will become a Mercedes engine customer.
