A woman will go to jail for making a false rape accusation in the United States.

A man was unjustly accused as the perpetrator of the crime and remained detained for 31 days

A court in the state of Pennsylvania, in the United States, sentenced Anjela Borisova Urumova on Wednesday to a prison term for having filed a false rape report against a man in 2024.

According to People magazine, the woman will initially serve 45 days in jail, although that period could be extended up to 23 months, depending on the case's development.

Additionally, the sentence includes the payment of compensation of 3,600 dollars in favor of Daniel Pierson, who was unjustly accused as the perpetrator of the crime and was detained for 31 days.

The false report claimed that Pierson had approached Borisova Urumova outside a supermarket located in Middletown Township and had subsequently taken her to his vehicle to "sexually assault her."

However, the police investigation revealed multiple contradictions in the woman's account and no evidence was found to support her claims, not even in the security camera recordings of the place.

After being interrogated several times, Borisova Urumova eventually admitted that she had made up the entire story. As a result, Pierson was released, while the complainant was placed on probation pending the final trial, which has now resulted in a firm conviction.

Just two weeks after regaining his freedom, the falsely accused man filed a lawsuit against Anjela Borisova Urumova for serious defamation before the court.

"The unfounded report not only caused immense damage to the victim's life and his family environment, but also triggered a domino effect with serious consequences," said prosecutor Jennifer Schorn.

"An act like this can destroy the credibility of the judicial system in society and hinder the prosecution of true sexual violence crimes," the official added.

As part of the measures ordered by the court, Borisova Urumova must undergo a mental health evaluation within a year and comply with a probation regime for a period of 12 months.

"The falsehood of this report not only deeply impacted the person unjustly accused and his loved ones, but also struck public confidence in justice," Schorn concluded firmly.
