Correísmo seeks to reverse electoral results while Noboa advances to the runoff

The TCE admitted two appeals filed by the Citizen Revolution in an attempt to modify the results.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) partially accepted the challenges presented by Revolución Ciudadana (RC) and Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN), resulting in the recount of 36 tally sheets from the February 9 elections. Meanwhile, ADN achieved the review of tally sheets in Pichincha, correísmo insists that there are inconsistencies affecting their vote in several provinces.

One of the main complaints comes from the correísta candidate Luisa González, who has taken her objections to the Electoral Dispute Tribunal (TCE).

Among her claims, she states that the process has been irregular and that the results affect the allocation of seats in the National Assembly. However, several of the resources presented by RC have been denied by the CNE, limiting their room for maneuver.

The ruling movement ADN also filed a resource with the CNE, arguing inconsistencies in the tally sheets of constituency 4 of Pichincha. Their candidate, Giovanna Ubidia, denounced that in 296 tally sheets discrepancies are observed that could alter the allocation of a seat in the National Assembly. Although the Provincial Electoral Board of Pichincha initially denied the claim, the CNE reversed this decision and ordered the recount.

Meanwhile, RC and its alliance with RETO also managed to have the CNE review 21 tally sheets corresponding to the presidential election in several provinces, alleging that the results do not match those reported in the computer system. However, most of their challenges have been rejected, weakening their attempt to modify the official numbers.

Despite the CNE denying multiple resources to correísmo, Revolución Ciudadana has appealed to the TCE to try to halt the definitive proclamation of the results. Judge Ivonne Coloma admitted two of González's resources in Sucumbíos and Guayas, although other claims in Esmeraldas are still under evaluation.

The strategy of correísmo seems focused on delaying the process and generating uncertainty about the validity of the tally, which could affect the development of the campaign ahead of the runoff on April 13. However, the electoral calendar continues, and the presidential debate between Daniel Noboa and Luisa González is scheduled for March 23.

As the country approaches the second round, correísmo attempts to modify the results through challenges and litigation in the TCE. However, the CNE has reaffirmed the transparency of the process, limiting the chances that these objections will change the electoral landscape.

Daniel Noboa continues to consolidate as the option of stability against a Revolución Ciudadana that seeks to regain power at all costs.
