LIVE | The new National Assembly is inaugurated for the 2025-2027 term

ADN and the Citizen Revolution factions compete for the presidency of the Legislative

Since the morning of this Wednesday, May 14, the swearing-in session of the new National Assembly is taking place, which will serve during the 2025-2027 term. This new legislative cycle will have 151 assembly members, 14 more than the previous one, as a result of the population increase recorded in the latest INEC census.

The inaugural session began at 10:00 and is led by the three most voted national legislators: Annabella Azín (ADN), Raúl Chávez (RC-RETO), and Alfredo Serrano (PSC).

The caucuses of National Democratic Action (ADN) and the Citizen Revolution (RC) are vying for the presidency of the Parliament. ADN, with 66 seats, would have reached the 77 votes needed for a qualified majority thanks to negotiations with independents and the Pachakutik movement. Among the names being considered to preside over the Legislature are Annabella Azín and Niels Olsen.

Meanwhile, the Citizen Revolution bloc, also with 66 seats, is analyzing possible candidacies like Viviana Veloz, with the intention of gaining control of the legislative Presidency.
