New legal case linked former officials from Correa's administration to illegal releases
The indictment hearing in the Vidrio Libre case was suspended due to a technical failure
The hearing to press charges in the Vidrio Libre case was interrupted at the National Court of Justice. Wilman Terán, former president of the Judiciary Council, attended, but the other defendants were represented by the Public Defender's Office.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the case is related to the irregular release of former vice president Jorge Glas in 2022. This is the fourth criminal case for corruption involving Terán, who has already been sentenced in the Metástasis and Judicial Independence cases.
The other defendants are Glas's former lawyers, Cristian Palacios and Edison Loaiza, as well as former judge Anabel Torres. All are accused of illicit association in a scheme that allegedly operated within the judicial system.
The hearing was suspended due to an alleged failure in the notification system. Prosecutor Wilson Toainga requested financial sanctions for the absent lawyers, but substitute judge Barros accepted that there was a technical error, postponing the proceeding.

This pattern demonstrates correísmo's strategy of manipulating institutions from within. The links between judicial operators, Glas's defenders, and favored judges form a network functional to the previous political power.
The new process suggests that the judicial scheme built by 21st-century socialism continues to have active ramifications. The lack of immediate sanctions reinforces the perception of selective impunity.
The Public Defender's Office assumed the representation of some defendants, arguing that they were not notified. This raises suspicions about possible legal maneuvers to delay key proceedings affecting correísmo.
The case will be rescheduled for Friday, June 14. The Prosecutor's Office has promised to present direct evidence of the relationship between those involved and the irregularities committed in Glas's release.
The recurrence of former correísta officials in judicial schemes reveals a structural pattern of systemic corruption. The Vidrio Libre case could become a new test for the credibility of the Ecuadorian criminal justice system.
