Diana Salazar's new stage, from Attorney General to Ambassador in Argentina
The former prosecutor emphasized that her diplomatic appointment represents a transition to serving the country
Diana Salazar Méndez, former Attorney General, was appointed as Ecuador's ambassador to Argentina through Executive Decree No. 634, signed by President Daniel Noboa on May 21, 2025. In a message shared on social media, Salazar stated that "public service is that: a call from the country to serve in different areas", defining her new role as a transitional stage with continuity in the commitment to Ecuador.
The official emphasized that her decision is linked to personal and professional reasons: "With security being an important issue, this transition provides us with peace of mind while we continue to serve the country". The national government, through a statement, thanked Salazar for her management in the Prosecutor's Office, highlighting her work as an essential contribution to strengthening institutions and combating corruption.
During her tenure as Attorney General, Salazar faced more than six years of political pressures, legal actions, and attempts at delegitimization. Despite this, she consolidated an active Prosecutor's Office against organized crime and corruption cases.
The Argentine government's approval for her appointment was granted on January 29, 2024, anticipating the diplomatic transition process. Salazar concluded her term in April, after six years and 43 days at the helm of the Prosecutor's Office, extended due to the delay in the succession contest.

Salazar's entry into the diplomatic corps occurs in a context where Noboa's administration strengthens its foreign relations with strategic appointments, while promoting a technical and meritocratic profile in its team.
From the Executive, her new role is interpreted as part of a coherent policy that seeks to maintain high-level cadres in international missions, in line with the country's interests and its global projection.
Salazar concluded her message by stating: "We will continue working for Ecuador", reaffirming that her institutional commitment transcends positions.
With this appointment, President Daniel Noboa reaffirms his vision of recognizing merit and ensuring institutional continuity through appointments that prioritize stability and public service.
