The dictatorship that doesn't tolerate free elections accuses Ecuador of fascism.

Ortega's regime's accusations contrasted with the support from EU and OAS observers

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillolaunched harsh unfounded criticisms against the re-elected president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, whom they accused of leading a "servile dictatorship." The reaction of the Nicaraguan Government contrasts with the broad international support received by the Ecuadorian electoral process.

Noboa was re-elected on April 13 with 55.6% of the votes, surpassing the correísta candidate Luisa González. The legitimacy of his victory was endorsed by observation missions from the European Union and the Organization of American States, which ruled out any indication of fraud.

In a statement titled "The Non-Victory of the Deceivers," the Sandinista regime disqualified the results without presenting evidence. The complaint was accompanied by insults and baseless accusations, ignoring that their own re-election in 2021 was considered illegitimate by nearly 40 countries.

The criticism from the Ortega-Murillo regime came after Nicaragua broke diplomatic relations with Ecuador in April 2024. The conflict originated after the arrest of former Vice President Jorge Glas at the Mexican embassy, a decision supported by the Ecuadorian justice system.

Meanwhile, Ortega accuses Ecuador of authoritarianism, his own government has been accused of repressive practices and lack of legitimacy. In November 2021, Ortega was re-elected without political competition after imprisoning opponents and restricting basic freedoms.

The European Parliament and the OAS denounced that those elections "lacked democratic legitimacy," in contrast to the transparency of the Ecuadorian process. This difference exposes the inconsistency of the Nicaraguan regime in criticizing other democratic governments.

Daniel Noboa, despite economic and security challenges, has maintained an institutional stance and respect for the democratic order. His victory represents a citizen endorsement of a governance model focused on order and stability.

The criticisms of the Ortega-Murillo regime lack substance in the face of international recognition of the electoral process in Ecuador. The re-election of Daniel Noboa reflects the country's commitment to democracy and legality.
