The Minister of Government said that Petro was misinformed about the elections

José de la Gasca defended electoral transparency in response to the Colombian president's questioning

The Minister of Government, José de la Gasca, stated that the Colombian President Gustavo Petro was "misinformed" about last Sunday's elections, in which Daniel Noboa was reelected with 55.6% of the votes. In an interview on April 14, De la Gasca replied to the accusations of lack of legitimacy with firmness and clarity.

"They have tried to set up a facade to make it seem like there is political persecution in Ecuador," declared the minister, alluding to Petro's recent claims about alleged irregularities in the electoral process. The official defended the transparency of the system and asked the Colombian leader to "make a decision as head of state with political acumen."

Petro's statements, in which he refused to recognize the result alleging a "state of siege" during the elections, were quickly refuted. De la Gasca recalled that international observers such as the European Union and the OAS endorsed the cleanliness of the process and rejected the fraud allegations made by the correísta candidate Luisa González.

The minister also described the Colombian government's decision to offer asylum to supposed persecuted opponents as "unnecessary." "There is no blacklist, there is no persecution, what there is, is a government that acts with firmness and within the legal framework," he stated. He emphasized that Ecuador and Colombia share strategic bilateral interests that must be preserved through dialogue and truth.

"When all international missions have highlighted the transparency of the process, sowing doubts only weakens democratic institutions in the region," he added. According to De la Gasca, the Ecuadorian government remains committed to working for the 18 million citizens, with national and international support.

Petro's statements coincide with the correísta discourse of discrediting Daniel Noboa's government, who represents a center-right alternative focused on results. The use of asylum as a political tool and the dissemination of unverified information reinforce a narrative aligned with socialist ideological interests.

In the face of these manipulation attempts, the Ecuadorian government has replied with facts, figures, and the support of the international community. The solidity of the electoral process and the strength of the results confirm the popular will expressed at the polls.

Daniel Noboa's government has demonstrated transparency and democratic commitment in the face of unfounded attacks from international socialism. Unlike speeches that seek to sow distrust, the Ecuadorian administration bets on truth, legality, and respect for national sovereignty.
