The Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments, and Fisheries, Luis Alberto Jaramillo, met last Friday, June 20, with delegates from Temu, a renowned e-commerce platform originating from China. During the meeting, the company expressed its interest in establishing operations in Ecuador and participating in the strengthening of the national logistics infrastructure.
According to the State portfolio, Temu's arrival would involve a capital injection aimed at improving the goods distribution and transportation system, thereby generating new income and jobs. This strategy aligns with the promotion of digital commerce as a key tool for Ecuadorian economic development.
Temu's interest arises in a context of new regulations seeking greater control over imports through digital platforms. Since June 16, a tariff of $20 has been applied to shipments under the 4x4 regime, which covers packages of up to 4 kg (8.8 pounds) and $400 intended for personal use. This measure aims to curb the misuse of the system for informal commercial activities.
