The United States Department of Justice indicted for the second time the former director of theFBIduring the Barack Obama administration, James Comey, as reported by Fox News this Tuesday afternoon.
The new charges stem from a provocative photo that Comey posted on his Instagram profile a year ago. The publication showed the numbers “86" and “47" consisting of snails in the sand of a beach, which the former Obama official claimed to have found by chance and then
photographed.
In gastronomic jargon, “86" generally means to remove or remove something from the menu, while “47" is a reference to Donald Trump, who currently serves as the 47th president of the United States. The publication was deleted a few hours after the sinister meaning of it became known, and earned Comey a visit from the
Secret Service. Obama's former FBI director was charged with inciting violence against President Trump

Later, due to the controversy generated by his post, the former FBI boss issued a public message trying to downplay the incident. “A while ago I posted a photo of some snails I saw walking on the beach, which I assumed was a political message,” he said. “I didn't realize that some people associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me, but I am opposed to any kind of violence, so I deleted the post
.”
Comey was indicted and tried by a grand jury in September 2025, where he was charged with false testimony and obstruction of parliamentary proceedings. A few days later, a militant Democratic Party judge came to his rescue, dismissing the charges, claiming that Lindsey Halligan, the Trump-appointed prosecutor who promoted the indictments, was illegally acting federal prosecutor.
