The new Office of Mass Participation in New York City will cost taxpayers over $5.2 million in salaries in 2027, which will go towards participation and communication expenses in favor of the communist mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The mentioned office has grown from 14 initial positions to 40 employees, representing an increase of 186%. The total payroll now stands at $5,123,756, a significant rise compared to initial estimates, according to the New York Post.
Mamdani's new Soviet idea is supposedly designed to increase public participation in discussions about city policies. However, the magnitude and cost of this office have generated a mountain of criticism and evidence that this spending only benefits the Democratic politician.
"We have real deficits and this mayor is spending five million dollars to put 40 political operators on the payroll. It is morally incomprehensible... It is outrageous," Democratic advisor Hank Sheinkopf told the Post.

The Office of Mass Participation has already been active this week as the mayor's operatives were seen conducting door-to-door campaign activities in neighborhoods, urging residents to attend the hearings of the Rent Regulation Board of the City of New York, the body responsible for setting rental prices in the Big Apple.
Similar efforts have been observed in the areas of the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn since early May, according to reports. The office's first initiative, called Organize NYC, includes recruiting volunteers and community organizing door-to-door. Several of these positions have been filled by individuals who participated in Mamdani's campaign.
Among the 40 activists that Mamdani will hire is the position of director with a salary of around $150,000. Additionally, the communist mayor's communications staff is expected to grow significantly under the current budget, which allocates $51.8 million for this function, representing an increase of approximately $7 million compared to the previous administration.
