The Donald Trump administration has launched a strict offensive on immigration matters by ordering the review of thousands of cases approved during the Democratic administration of Joe Biden. The measure will be enforced by the United States Immigration and Citizenship Service (USCIS), which seeks to detect potential cases of fraud in the granting of benefits such as permanent residence, asylum and
other permits. The agency's director, Joe Edlow, confirmed that the agency has intensified its investigations and began to re-examine old files. As he explained, the objective is to identify people who have obtained immigration benefits irregularly, even if these were granted in previous years. “We are reviewing cases from the past and those who have committed fraud will face consequences,” the official said in recent statements
.According to official data, since January 20, 2025, USCIS has made nearly 33,000 referrals for suspected fraud to its Fraud Detection and Homeland Security division, representing an increase of 138% compared to the annual average registered during the previous administration. In addition, more than 21,000 investigations were completed, in which irregularities were detected in approximately 65% of the cases analyzed
.
The government plan also includes an increase in field inspections, with more than 7,000 visits made, as well as more than 26,000 social media reviews to detect possible inconsistencies or risks. These tools are part of a broader approach that seeks to strengthen control mechanisms and prevent abuses within the migration system
