Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, from the states of Texas and North Carolina respectively, issued a joint statement on Monday confirming that they will support the nomination of Todd Blanche to become the United States Attorney General permanently.

The senators had requested a written confirmation from the Department of Justice that it would abandon the fund implementation driven by President Donald Trump aimed at compensating victims of political persecution during the regimes of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Blanche agreed to this, and it seems that everything will be confirmed by the Senate.

"We want to express our gratitude to Mr. Blanche and his team for working with us on this matter, and we look forward to voting soon to advance his nomination in the Senate Judiciary Committee", both senators wrote in a statement.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on Tuesday to approve Blanche's nomination. Once this step is completed, a final vote will be held, where it is expected that the entire Republican majority will support Trump's candidate.

Last week, the president announced a plan to keep Blanche in his position temporarily if Cornyn and Tillis continued with their intention to boycott the nomination.

Cornyn and Tillis are two establishment politicians historically aligned with the Republican establishment and not with the Trump movement who will not continue in the Senate next year due to voters disapproving of their performance. The former lost his primary in June to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who had Trump's backing.
