The Department of Justice has established a fund of more than 1.7 billion dollars to compensate individuals who suffered political and judicial persecution during the administration of Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump stated to reporters at the White House on Monday that the fund will serve to "reimburse people who were treated horribly, horribly by Biden". Among those benefiting will be Trump supporters who participated in the January 6, 2021 protest at the Capitol against electoral fraud, who were persecuted and faced horrific abuses by Biden's Department of Justice.

"They have been subject to persecution; in some cases, they have been unjustly imprisoned. They paid legal fees that they could not cover. They have gone bankrupt, their lives have been destroyed, and it turns out they were right", Trump expressed.

"These were people who suffered the weaponization of justice and were treated with true brutality by a system that was very corrupt, run by corrupt people, and they will be reimbursed for their legal expenses and for the other things they had to endure", he continued.

A historic step

The creation of this fund is an unprecedented measure in U.S. legal history. It means that many people who were targets of political persecution during the Obama and Biden administrations, from those affected by ObamaGate to the nearly 1,600 individuals charged in connection with the Capitol assault, will be able to file their claims for compensation.

In January, Trump filed a lawsuit valued at 10 billion dollars against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) alleging that the state agency improperly leaked his and his family's tax returns.

This month it was revealed that Trump would withdraw the lawsuit, as well as other legal actions - including a 230 million dollar claim for the raid ordered by the Biden administration at Mar-a-Lago in 2022 - in exchange for a public apology from the IRS and the creation of this compensation fund, which represents a fraction of the original cost.
