President Donald Trump suggested this Wednesday at the G7 summit that he could recover the military equipment that the armed forces of the United States left behind during the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan ordered by former Democratic President Joe Biden in 2021.

The president harshly criticized the foreign policy of his successor and predecessor in office, emphasizing that Biden decided to abandon in Afghanistan dozens of military aircraft, thousands of ground vehicles, and more than 300,000 weapons that are now in the hands of the Taliban terrorists.

"Our country has become the most respected in the world", Trump stated. "Look at what happened in so many different places. Afghanistan, that horrible withdrawal that these people did. Leaving equipment behind. They were under no pressure. Take your time."

"I was going to leave," the Republican noted. "We were going to leave with dignity and pride. Taking 100% of the equipment with us. I was even going to dismantle the tents. But then [Biden] came in and they just left. They left all the equipment. I may recover all that equipment. Now, this is the point: it's more symbolic because it's already a bit old, but we may recover it all. Afghanistan is kissing our tr...", Trump explained.

Biden's Legacy

The war in Afghanistan lasted nearly 20 years and ended with the country falling into the hands of the Taliban after the U.S.-backed Afghan government surrendered and handed over power to the terrorist group. It is estimated that Biden left the Taliban military equipment valued at up to $7.12 billion.

"The hypothesis was that the more than 300,000 members of the Afghan National Security Forces that we had trained and equipped over the last two decades would be a strong adversary in their civil wars against the Taliban," he awkwardly noted

on August 31, 2021. "That hypothesis - that the Afghan government would be able to withstand for a period of time after the military reduction - turned out to be incorrect", the Democrat admitted.

Under the Taliban regime, women and girls remain repressed and opponents continue to be persecuted. The country also faces a famine affecting approximately 17.4 million Afghans, with millions at risk of falling into severe food insecurity this year, the World Food Program indicated.
