The President of the United States, Donald Trump, defeated numerous Republican members of the Indiana “establishment” on Tuesday night who refused to support his initiative to redesign the state's electoral map to favor the party in the face of mid-term elections with new districts.
In total, eight Republican state legislators who opposed a more favorable redistricting for Republicans were defeated by Trump-aligned candidates.
“It's a sign that the party is ready to follow the president in this and also to turn the page, bringing younger and newer leaders into the state Senate,” said analyst and former state representative David McIntosh, whose group invested more than 2 million dollars in the electoral race.
The Trump base sought the redesign of districts in Indiana, a state that the current president won every time he ran for office, after the Democrats eliminated Republican representation in Virginia and erased 4 districts that represented them by the ruling party.
