After surviving another attack against him on Saturday night, President Donald Trump, accompanied by key government officials, held a press conference at the White House where he explained why the left continues to seek to end his life.
“Well, you know, I've studied assassinations, and I have to tell you that the most influential people, the people who do the most... take a look at the people, Abraham Lincoln, I mean, go over the list of people who have been through this, when they caught up with them; but the people who do the most, the people who make the most impact, those are the ones they're after. They don't persecute those who don't do much, because they like it that way. And when you look at people who have suffered either an attempt or a completed attempt, they are very influential people. Just look at the names there, the big names. And I hate to say that I'm honored by that,” he said
.
The president then linked the attacks against him to the reemergence of the United States. “We've taken this country, and we were the laughing stock for years, and now we're the most important country anywhere in the world. We've changed this country, and there are a lot of people who aren't happy with that.”

The details of the attack
Trump also said that being president is a “dangerous profession” and that he has accepted the risks. He explained that “5.8%" of presidents die assassinated “and about 8% have been shot”.
The seriousness of the matter did not prevent the president from joking about the episode with his cabinet, true to his style: “Nobody told me that this was such a dangerous profession. If [Secretary of State] Marco [Rubio] had told me, maybe I wouldn't have applied. Maybe I would have said: it happened, not this time.”
The shooter was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California who graduated as an engineer in 2017 and obtained a master's degree in computer science last year. Allen is currently in custody, although authorities have not yet officially confirmed his name.
At the aforementioned press conference, Trump revealed that law enforcement is already at the suspect's place of residence looking for evidence, although he did not mention the subject's name. Trump explained why the left keeps trying to kill him: “Those who do the most are the ones they persecute”
