The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the transfer to Israeli territory of the remains of two hostages who were in the Gaza Strip.
The bodies were escorted by the IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir, where the Israel Police will be responsible for their official identification.
The move came shortly after the terrorist group Hamas announced that it would release the remains of two hostages, following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that he would send forces to Gaza to "bring Hamas into line" if the group did not comply with the agreed ceasefire.
In a joint conference with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner stated that "progress is being made in the recovery of the bodies of the deceased hostages in Gaza."
Vance added that "the goal of everyone involved is to return those bodies to their families for a dignified burial", although he warned that the process could take time, since many remain buried in tunnels or under the rubble.

According to the ceasefire agreement brokered by Washington and ratified by Israel on October 9, Hamas had 72 hours to release all hostages—alive and deceased—in its custody.
Hamas tried to justify the delay by claiming that some bodies were buried in tunnels destroyed by Israeli bombings and others under collapsed buildings. The group added that it needs heavy machinery to remove the rubble, but that it can't access it due to Israeli restrictions on the entry of such equipment.
Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, denied those arguments and was blunt:
"We know for certain that Hamas can immediately release a significant number of hostages in accordance with the agreement. What they are doing now constitutes an essential violation of it."
The Israeli government reiterated that it will continue to act with all necessary diplomatic and security means to bring back each of its citizens. As a military spokesperson stated: "Israel will not rest until all our hostages return home."
