Morena ensures reelection for its deputies, even if they don't work or present initiatives.
The ruling party's bloc secured the permanence of legislators without merit until 2027, rewarding obedience
Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, confirmed that all legislators in his caucus will be able to seek reelection in 2027, regardless of their performance.
The measure was announced in an internal meeting. It was clarified that the restrictions will apply until 2030. The Morena deputy Miroslava Shember Domínguez, who has not presented a single initiative throughout the legislature, celebrated with a: "Glory to God!"
Congress at the service of clientelism
Meanwhile, the country crumbles in insecurity, inflation, and educational crisis, the ruling party deputies celebrate having secured jobs for three more years, regardless of whether they have legislated, overseen, or defended the people.
In Morena's Congress it's enough to raise a hand and applaud the president to continue collecting from the treasury. The people pay their salaries, but they don't work for the people.Instead of being held accountable, they will now be rewarded with reelection.
Empty promises and institutionalized cynicism
The announcement comes amid the supposed "ethical reformism" that Morena preaches. They talk about combating nepotism, excesses, and corruption, but in practice, they keep officials who neither legislate nor work.
They promise a transformation, but perpetuate the same vices of the old regime. They applaud the president, raise their hands without reading what they approve, and then demand reelection as if they had fulfilled their duty to the country.
The Morena caucus not only endorses mediocrity, it celebrates it as part of the system.
The Congress has become a placement agency for loyal cadres, not a space for democratic representation.
The ruling party doesn't seek to build laws. It seeks to shield its power strongholds with the automatic reelection of opaque profiles, without track record and without proposals.
A seat for obedience, not for merit
Meanwhile, the real problems of the country remain unattended. Insecurity grows, the health system collapses, and public education deteriorates. But in Morena, the priority is to secure seats for those who applaud, not for those who propose.
Each reelection without merit is a mockery of the electorate. It is rewarding uselessness with public money, as if obedience were enough to occupy a seat. The citizenry is relegated to being a spectator of a legislative theater where the script is already written from National Palace.
If this is the regeneration they promised, it is merely a made-up version of authoritarianism. Morena is not renewing politics, it is recycling servility. And the cost is still being paid by all of us.
