'Don Rodo,' brother of El Mencho, falls: the end of CJNG or a media blow?
Authorities capture Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, brother of the CJNG leader, while his family continues to operate.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) remains one of the most powerful criminal groups in Mexico and the world. Its leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho," remains at large, but his brother, Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, alias "Don Rodo," was captured in a federal operation in Tonaya, Jalisco.
Authorities identify him as a key figure in the cartel's money laundering, a criminal organization that controls drug trafficking, extortion, and contract killing in more than 24 states of the country.
However, the question remains: will this arrest really affect the structure of the CJNG, or is it just a media stunt to simulate that the government is fighting the drug trade?
The importance of "Don Rodo" within the CJNG
Unlike his brother "El Mencho," Don Rodo is not known for being an operational leader or a bloodthirsty hitman. His role within the cartel was more linked to financial and logistical management, facilitating money laundering and the transactions necessary for the organization to continue operating smoothly.
How did "Don Rodo" operate?
According to intelligence reports:
- He supervised the CJNG's money laundering networks in Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and the State of Mexico.
- He managed front companies in the agro-industrial and construction sectors to channel illicit profits.
- He authorized payments and financing of criminal operations, including the purchase of weapons and bribes to officials.
- He coordinated shipments of fentanyl and methamphetamines to the United States and Europe.

El Mencho remains untouchable
While the government boasts the capture of "Don Rodo," his brother, El Mencho, remains free and operating with total impunity:
- The DEA offers 10 million dollars for information leading to his capture.
- He controls drug trafficking routes to the United States, Europe, and Asia.
- He has managed to infiltrate security forces and local governments in several states.
Attempts to capture him have failed time and again. Does the government really want to catch him, or is it just pretending to look for him?
A real arrest or a political theater?
Days before the capture of "Don Rodo," his sister Rosalinda González was released after being detained for managing the CJNG's finances.
The cartel has shown no signs of weakness or internal fracture following the arrest of "Don Rodo."

The CJNG's operations remain intact in Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Zacatecas.
The CJNG: Mexico's most violent organization
Since its emergence in 2010, the CJNG has surpassed the Sinaloa Cartel in violence and expansion.
It is present in at least 24 states and has displaced rival groups in various regions.
Its leader, El Mencho, has turned the cartel into a global organization, with a presence in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America.
It is considered the most dangerous criminal group in Mexico and the world.
The government will continue to sell the capture of "Don Rodo" as a great achievement, but the reality is that the CJNG remains intact and operating normally.
