Messi on the Mexican national team: 'There is no comparison between Argentina and Mexico'
The Argentine star mentioned the Mexican national team in an interview, with whom he doesn't recognize a rivalry as such
Lionel Messi, considered one of the greatest players of all time, recently surprised with some statements about Mexico. The star pointed directly to the mixed feelings he evokes in some Mexican fans.
In an interview for the program Simply Soccer, the Argentine star stated that there is no real rivalry between Argentina and Mexico. He also claimed that he doesn't know the origin of the supposed "feud" between both teams.

"Actually, I don't know what happened with the Mexicans. When that rivalry, that feud started, because I've always felt very loved by the people of Mexico. I've never disrespected anyone"
declared Messi.
"I think they put themselves in a position, in a rivalry with us that doesn't really exist. There is no comparison between Argentina and Mexico, and I don't know where that came from".
Messi's words caused a wave of reactions on social media, where many users interpreted his comments as a statement of soccer superiority.
Although the Albiceleste captain didn't make a direct comparison of achievements, his statements contrast a bit with his actions. During a friendly match between Club América and Inter Miami, Messi sent a message to Mexican fans reminding them that Argentina has won three World Cups, while Mexico has won none.

Messi also recalled the match between both teams in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0 in a key match for the South American team's qualification.
"The stadium was tough. Mexico brings people everywhere, to every World Cup, to every competition. I don't know if they felt more Mexican than Argentine, but it was very even"
he expressed.
An intense soccer rivalry that lives on the internet.
Although Messi downplayed any tension between both teams, the truth is that there is a friendly, very active rivalry between fans of Mexico and Argentina, especially on social media.
The clashes between both teams in international tournaments, combined with the passionate support style of both fanbases, have fueled a kind of digital "little rivalry." It often manifests in memes, historical comparisons, and heated discussions on X, TikTok, and YouTube.

From Mexico's elimination in the 2006 World Cup against Argentina, to the clashes in Qatar, the narrative has been reinforced by a mix of respect, wounded pride, and sharp humor.
However, beyond the soccer folklore, most exchanges between both fanbases maintain a playful tone. Making it clear that, at the end of the day, the passion for soccer is what truly unites both countries.
