Trump Urged an Investigation Into Mexican Politicians for Ties to Drug Trafficking
Attorney General Pam Bondi would lead the Republican's petition.
The president of United States, Donald Trump, recommended investigating Mexican politicians who might be involved in activities related to drug trafficking and fentanyl trafficking.
During an interview, Trump indicated that he wouldn't rule out asking the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to investigate officials benefiting from drug smuggling and human trafficking.

Mexico's response: delivery of kingpins and security measures
This statement adds to the recent actions of the Trump administration to combat drug trafficking. Recently, the Pentagon warned about possible unilateral military actions against Mexican cartels if these issues aren't effectively addressed.
In response to U.S. pressure, the Mexican government transferred 29 cartel leaders to United States, in an operation involving 3,500 police and military personnel.

However, the White House issued a statement highlighting the lack of recognition for the Mexican government, emphasizing that this action was due to the leadership of President Trump and the work of his Attorney General.
This action evidences the little trust the administration led by the Republican still maintains with its Mexican counterpart, President Sheinbaum.

It wouldn't be enough
In addition to the above, analysts warn that Sheinbaum's strategy might be insufficient to calm the demands of Trump and the hardline Republicans. The possibility of trade sanctions or increased diplomatic pressure remains latent.
In recent months, Republican lawmakers have insisted that the Mexican government hasn't done enough to curb fentanyl trafficking, a substance that has caused a public health crisis in United States.
The statements by Trump and the measures adopted by both countries reflect the growing tension and complexity in bilateral collaboration to tackle drug trafficking and fentanyl trafficking.
