President Sheinbaum Called for a Protest at the Zócalo Against Trump's Tariffs.
In an extraordinary act, the president called on Mexicans to demonstrate on March 9 against the tariff measures.
If there were any doubts about the poor diplomatic and media handling of the relationship between the government of Claudia Sheinbaum and the United States, the Mexican of Bulgarian origin insists that the situation can always get worse.
In a sudden and surprising move, the Mexican leader called on Mexicans to demonstrate in the capital's Zócalo on Sunday, March 9, against the 25% tariffs imposed on Mexico by Donald Trump, which came into effect this Tuesday.

The patriotic rhetoric
Sheinbaum, whom the United States government accuses of lacking decisive results to stop the trafficking of fentanyl to its territory and of having an alliance with the cartels, has opted for rhetoric in which she claims "to defend Mexican sovereignty," making it clear that she has no serious strategy or willingness to address the request of the Republican administration.
According to the president, the objective of this mobilization is to show the Mexican people's rejection of the trade measures adopted by President Donald Trump, which are considered harmful to the national economy.

Impact of the tariffs on the Mexican economy
The 25% tariffs imposed by the United States affect multiple sectors of the Mexican economy, including the automotive, agricultural, and manufacturing industries. These measures could result in significant job losses and a decrease in the country's economic growth.
The false unity
President Sheinbaum has emphasized the importance of "national unity" in these times of trade tension. That's why she urged her voters to participate in the March 9 demonstration as a form of peaceful resistance and to "show the world" the strength and determination of the Mexican people in the face of adversity.
However, this rhetoric contrasts with the fact that in recent episodes of Mexican politics, the leader did not hesitate to exclude representatives of the Judiciary from official events.

For example, since she considered her contrary to her movement, the Chief Justice of the Court, Norma Piña, was not invited to the anniversary ceremony of the Mexican Constitution on February 5 in Querétaro.
Tensions rise
Despite the efforts of the Mexican government, its actions would not be convincing the White House, so an action like the one intended by Sheinbaum would only increase Washington's displeasure at the lack of results, which is why political analysts suggest prudence and better management of the bilateral relationship.
